Spaghetti on the Roof

The evening · ~5 hours

One long Roman evening,
slowly unfolding above the rooftops of Trastevere.

Spaghetti on the Roof is not a cooking class. It's a night inside a real Roman home — where wine is poured early, conversations begin before dinner, and by the end of the evening strangers feel strangely familiar.

Arrival & welcome

You climb the last flight of stairs. Mariella opens the door. There is wine, there is light, there are no nametags. Below the terrace, Rome is already turning gold.

Hands on — the meatballs

18:30

Hands on — the meatballs

Sleeves up. Bread soaked in milk, parsley, parmigiano. Mariella's nonna's polpette take shape in your hands around the table, while the oil begins to gently bubble nearby, ready to welcome the freshly made meatballs. The kitchen fills with anticipation, conversation and the unmistakable feeling that something delicious is about to happen.

The carbonara ritual

19:15

The carbonara ritual

No cream. No shortcuts. Guanciale, eggs, pecorino, pepper. The pan off the heat. The wrist movement. A Roman ritual that somehow feels both chaotic and precise.

Rooftop aperitivo

20:00

Rooftop aperitivo

A glass of something Roman during the golden hour. Freshly fried polpette made together by the whole Spaghetti on the Roof family, homemade sauces, warm focaccia, frittata, roasted tomatoes, gratinated zucchini and eggplant, olives, wine and long conversations while Trastevere slowly turns red beneath the rooftops.

The long table

21:00

The long table

Candles lit. Wine poured. We sit and stay longer than expected. Stories about Rome, journalism, travel, love, food and the strange beauty of meeting people you didn't know two hours before. No phones. No rush.

Dolce & after-dinner

22:00

Dolce & after-dinner

Homemade dessert — sometimes tiramisù, sometimes crostata. An amaro, maybe a song, maybe another bottle opened by accident. You leave when the candles burn low, carrying a recipe card, a full stomach, and the strange feeling that for one evening, you briefly lived a Roman life.

Before you come

The honest answers.

Where exactly is it?
A private rooftop home in Trastevere, Rome. The exact address is shared once your evening is confirmed — it's a real apartment, not a venue.
What if I don't cook?
You'll cook anyway, and you'll be fine. Mariella has hosted journalists, surgeons, fashion designers and someone who'd never boiled water. It's about the gesture, not the technique.
Dietary needs?
Vegetarian and most allergies handled gracefully — please tell us when you book. We do not adapt for strict vegan or no-gluten.
How many people sit at the table?
Eight to ten. Never more. We want to hear every voice at the table.
Is it kid-friendly?
It's an adult evening. Private rooftop buy-outs can be tailored for families.
What's included?
All food, all wine, all the recipes you cook with us — sent to you the morning after.
